Choosing to package for moving: boxes, film, bags

protective packaging

"As you pack, so you move" is the popular saying. To move without loss, things need to be properly packed. But there are many packaging materials: packaging film for moving, boxes, bags, and packages - how to figure out what is for what? So we decided to talk in detail about the types of packaging and how to properly pack clothes, equipment, and other things. If you are planning to move, read to the end so as not to fuss and worry but to easily and correctly prepare household items and furniture for the move.

What problems are possible with improper packing of things for moving?

The importance of the preparation process cannot be underestimated. Why is it important to buy packing materials and take the trouble to pack things? Everything is quite simple: so that things are not damaged and get to the new address safe and sound. Here are a few common problems you might run into if you don't think about packing ahead of time.

1.      Things and furniture can hit the corners of walls and doors during loading - scratches and chips will appear.

2.      Loaders can accidentally drop things on the ground and damage them without proper packaging (broken dishes, broken appliances, etc.).3. Things may get wet or dirty if loading is carried out in the rain.

3.      If the collection is incorrect, that is, without observing the rules for the layout of things, you can accidentally spoil them: for example, cosmetics in bottles, drinks, and household chemicals should not be put in boxes or bags along with books, documents, and other paper.

4.      Expensive clothes will lose their proper appearance if folded into boxes and pressed with something heavy.

5.      To prevent this, you should follow the rules and procedures for packing things and purchase special packaging materials for upholstered furniture, clothes, fragile items, dishes, and household appliances.

What are the types of packing materials for moving?

When it comes to apartment moving, eyes usually run wide. It is necessary not to forget anything: here are books, personal items, bulky furniture, and jewelry. Particular care must be taken with memorable and valuable items. There is no universal package for all items, so we talk about the main types of packaging, what it is for, and how to use it correctly.

Conventional (four-valve) boxes

You need to put voluminous but light things in ordinary cardboard boxes for moving. For example, soft and plastic toys, textiles (curtains, bed linen, tablecloths), clothes that do not wrinkle and fold easily (for example, bulky wool sweaters, sweatshirts, jeans), and dishes.

However, you can't just put the dishes in large boxes for moving. First, you must wrap them in craft paper or bubble wrap (bubble wrap). Avoid gaps and free space between the dishes, so they do not "fly" around the box during transportation.

You can also load books and photo albums into cardboard boxes. Nevertheless, in this instance, it is necessary to monitor the weight so that it is possible to lift them without much effort.

Decor should be put in boxes: figurines, vases, and framed paintings. First, wrap them in bubble wrap so that things do not knock against each other. Such a box, like everything fragile, must be signed with a bright marker "Fragile." For dishes, you should always use boxes with reinforced bottoms. We will talk about this below.

Wardrobe boxes for clothes

Clothes made from natural materials - linen or silk, clothes with designer accessories, exclusive dresses, and accessories cannot be transported in ordinary bags or boxes. Instead, there are special wardrobe boxes for moving. Inside, there is a bar for hangers. You take clothes hangers out of the closet and hang them right in the box: the clothes move vertically in this way. They don't wrinkle. Such containers are made of multilayer corrugated cardboard, which will not even let water through. This is the best packaging for outfits that you especially treasure.

Document boxes

There are special archival boxes for transporting documents. These are durable cardboard boxes for moving: they have lids and special holes on the side for carrying. There is probably nothing more convenient for transporting documents: if you have a lot of papers, then such "lid-bottom" boxes are the best option. Such boxes are made of multilayer corrugated cardboard (3 or 5 layers) and can withstand weight up to 45 kg.

Boxes for household and digital equipment

Tighter and larger boxes are used for TVs, printers, computers and all the like. Usually, these are large boxes with a volume of 125 liters. The system unit, monitor, and wires will fit in such a box. All voids are filled with bubble wrap or foam. Such boxes are made of 5- or 7-layer corrugated cardboard to withstand heavy loads and protect equipment from moisture and mechanical damage.

Boxes

Moving boxes can be wooden or plastic. Wooden boxes are convenient for dishes and personal items - souvenirs, crafts, photographs, stationery, and small gadgets. Plastic boxes usually come with boxes - you can put products that are best wrapped with stretch film. It is also convenient to put books in lockable plastic boxes to protect them from dust and moisture.

Bags

Checkered bags for moving will be needed if there is no time to put everything in inboxes. You can put clothes, toys, blankets, dishes, blankets, and pillows in them. Large moving bags are very light, roomy, and durable. Their only disadvantage is that they do not retain their shape, so they should not be used for anything delicate or easily bent.

Packages

Plastic moving bags pack small items and sort things inside boxes. Vacuum bags can be used for regular clothes, so they take up much less space.

Film

The film for moving is very important since you can wrap an object of any shape. It is very pliable and does not let moisture through. For example, when moving, you can wrap sofas, ottomans, chairs, and chests of drawers in furniture film. Ordinary stretch film is used for wooden, plastic, and metal things, and bubble film is used for porcelain, glass, ceramics, and other fragile materials. Consumer electronics should be wrapped in bubble wrap to protect them if there is a shock during loading.

Scorch

Moving tape is needed to seal the boxes after putting things in them. But 2 non-obvious life hacks will help make a move easier.

1.      When there are several people in the family, there are usually too many things. So buy some colored tape to wrap each family member's boxes in a specific color. So you will immediately understand which room to carry the box too, even without marking.

2.      The second idea of using adhesive tape is to glue the joints on the bottom of the box with it. Additional bottom protection is especially important for heavy boxes not to break during loading. Be sure to glue the bottom of the container where you will transport fragile items (glass, dishes) and heavy items (for example, a lot of books).

Styrofoam

Styrofoam filler is indispensable when packing dishes, glass, fragile items, or expensive electronics. Styrofoam will reliably protect against mechanical damage. It is more convenient than craft paper, as it does not absorb moisture and does not change shape with temperature changes. In addition, the foam filler is durable and can be reused.

Covers for upholstered furniture

It remains for us to tell only about upholstered furniture. In most cases, it is not disassembled. That is, it has to be packed as a whole. You can buy or sew to order protective covers that will not allow furniture to get dirty, wet, or scratched during transportation.

An alternative solution is to create protection from bubble film and cardboard - the so-called "sandwich panels" for upholstered furniture. You make a panel of several layers: the first is bubble wrap, and the second is sheets of corrugated cardboard, which are then wrapped with stretch film. The most reliable suit for upholstered furniture is created from such panels: as sofas, armchairs, or chairs.
